FIELD VISITS FOR CLASS XI & XII SCIENCE

Introduction
 
The students of Classes XI and XII (Science stream) of Mar Baselios Public School undertook an educational trip to IIIT Kottayam, Valavoor, and Kerala Science City, Kuravilangad, on 25th November 2025. The trip was organized to provide students with hands-on exposure to emerging technologies, scientific innovations, and research environments that complement their academic learning.
 
Visit to IIIT Kottayam, Valavoor
 
As part of their outreach programme, IIIT Kottayam warmly welcomed our students and teachers to their campus. The visit was coordinated by Dr. Suchithra M S and Dr. Josit Mariya, who ensured an engaging and insightful experience for all participants.
 
Expert Sessions
 
Two informative and interactive sessions were arranged:
 1. Introduction to Artificial Intelligence
Resource Person: Dr. Anu Maria Sebastian
Students were introduced to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, its applications in daily life, and future opportunities in AI-based careers.
 2. Foundations of Cyber Security
Resource Person: Dr. Sreelakshmy I J
The session highlighted essential concepts of cybersecurity, its increasing relevance in the digital era, and the need for safe online practices.
 
Lab Visits and Exposure
 
The students explored various cutting-edge research and innovation labs, including:
 • Gyan Lab
 • Create Lab
 • Electronics & Communication Lab
 • Sherlock Lab
 
These visits helped students understand how theoretical concepts are applied in real-world research and technological development. The curiosity and enthusiasm of the students were appreciated by the faculty, and the vibrant atmosphere at IIIT Kottayam inspired many to consider careers in STEM fields.
 
 
Visit to Kerala Science City, Kuravilangad
 
Following the IIIT visit, students proceeded to Kerala Science City, Kuravilangad — the state’s first advanced science centre.
 
Spread across 30 acres, the centre aims to promote scientific awareness, curiosity, and innovation among the public, especially young learners. During the visit, students explored the facilities included in the first phase of the project:

 • Science Centre featuring galleries such as:
 • Fun Science Gallery
 • Emerging Technology Gallery
 • 3D Theatre
 • Science Park
 
Students also learned about upcoming facilities such as the planetarium, observatory, and biodiversity park, which will make the centre a major scientific hub in Kerala.
 
The visit was both enjoyable and educational, offering students an opportunity to learn science through hands-on exhibits and interactive experiences.
